How much yard space do you need for backyard glamping?

The number-one planning question we get: how much yard space do I need for backyard glamping? For Cozy Canvas Camp’s 16-ft round bell tent, plan on a mostly flat, open circle about 21 feet in diameter — enough room for the tent, stakes or sandbags, and walking around the outside.

That footprint fits many Central New Jersey suburban yards. You do not need acreage or a rural campsite — just a clear patch of lawn (or an approved hard surface) and a reasonable path from the street or driveway.

Space checklist

• ~21 ft clear diameter per tent (our tent is ~16 ft across; the extra room is for staking, sandbags, and access).
• Mostly flat — gentle slope is often OK; steep hills or big holes are not.
• Clear of toys, furniture, and low branches before we arrive so setup is smooth.
• Path from driveway or street — we carry poles, canvas, mattresses, and décor.
• Overhead clearance — watch for low tree limbs and power lines in the circle.

Grass vs patio, deck, or turf

Grass is ideal for staking. Patio, deck, artificial turf, or no-stake yards can work with our hard-surface / sandbag setup (small add-on). Tell us your surface when you inquire so we bring the right gear. Pricing starts from $500 first night on any surface we approve — see packages.

Staking, sprinklers, and your lawn

When we stake into grass, we need you to tell us about sprinkler heads, irrigation lines, or anything else buried in that 21-ft circle. We can’t see underground — that information has to come from you.

A tent sitting on a lawn can flatten, yellow, or mark the grass, especially in heat or on a multi-night stay. That’s a normal part of backyard glamping. We’ll set up carefully, but we can’t restore how the lawn looks after pack-out. If you’d rather we don’t stake, choose the hard-surface / sandbag option when you book.

Two tents

Larger sleepovers sometimes use two tents at the same address. Each tent needs its own clear circle (or a larger combined open area). Mention guest count and layouts on the booking form and we’ll recommend one vs two tents.

What you don’t need

• Camping gear, stakes, or air mattresses of your own
• Portable bathrooms — you use your home facilities (that’s the staycation perk)
• A rural property — suburban yards across Central NJ are our normal

Access notes that help us

Mention locked gates, dogs, steep side yards, or HOA rules when you book. Someone 18+ should be reachable during setup. We typically set up in the afternoon and pack out the following morning unless you booked extra nights — details in how it works.
